Arsenal are interested in signing Aston Villa goalkeeper Daphne van Domselaar, according to The Telegraph.
The Netherlands international only made the switch to the Midlands club last summer but the Gunners are said to be “plotting” to bring her to the Emirates.
Van Domselaar reportedly has a £200,000 release clause in her contract which will make it easier to secure her services at the end of the season.
The 24-year-old has demonstrated her qualities for Villa in the Women’s Super League this campaign and manager Jonas Eidevall is seemingly keen to make her Arsenal’s new No.1.
What do Arsenal fans need to know about van Domselaar?
The Dutch shot-stopper spent her youth career with LSVV and Telstar before making her first team debut for FC Twente against Heerenveen in December 2017.
Van Domselaar was initially second choice to Sarah Everard but she became the Dutch club’s number one at the start of the 2019/20 season.
During her six years at FC Twente, the keeper won the Women’s Eredivisie title on three separate occasions, as well as five other domestic cups.
At international level, van Domselaar received her first senior cap in February 2022 before establishing herself as first-choice during the European Championships later the same year. She’s made 14 appearances since moving to Villa at the start of this campaign.
The Gunners have decided against pursuing Mary Earps
Up until very recently, it was assumed that Arsenal would snap up the England number one when her contract expires in June.
Arsenal have made approaches for Earps in past transfer windows, only for their bids to be knocked back by Manchester United.
However, even with the keeper close to being available on a free transfer, The Telegraph claim that Eidevall’s side have cooled their interest. It appears that van Domselaar is now the priority target for the summer.
