Arsenal will not make an attempt to sign Manchester United and England No.1 Mary Earps during the January transfer window, according to Arseblog reporter Tim Stillman.
The newly crowned BBC Sports Personality of the Year winner has been regularly linked with a switch to the Gunners in recent months. With Sabrina D’Angelo set to be away with Canada at the Gold Cup in February, there is room for a new keeper to be signed but, writing in his Substack column, Stillman said Earps is unlikely to be targeted:
“Arsenal will lose their back-up goalie for a month. I guess we could see some short-term cover drafted there but I don’t think it will be Mary Earps. As far as I know, there has been no contact there.”
Based on Stillman’s remarks, it looks like manager Jonas Eidevall will keep faith with Manuela Zinsberger in goal for the time being.
Arsenal may revisit Earps’ situation next summer
Earps’ contract at United does expire at the end of the season and there is a general feeling that she could leave Manchester and head south much like her former club teammate Alessia Russo did.
The striker was the subject of a world record bid from Arsenal last January before she eventually joined the London club on a free transfer instead.
Are other players being targeted by the Gunners?
Stillman has also confirmed that North Carolina Courage right-back Emily Fox is a player that Arsenal want to sign, with talks having already been held about securing her services.
Fox has been capped 39 times by the United States and, despite still only being 25 years of age, the defender would offer a lot of experience if she is recruited next month.
