Chelsea forward Sam Kerr has been named the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year for the second season in a row.
The Australian international has been in excellent form for Emma Hayes’ side this campaign, scoring 26 goals in all competitions so far.
Kerr has hit four in one game on two separate occasions, once against Vllaznia in the Champions League and another versus West Ham in the FA WSL Cup. The 29-year-old also got herself a hat-trick against Liverpool in the FA Cup fourth round back in late January.
There is still a chance that the forward will surpass her total of 32 goals from last season. The Blues play Manchester United in the FA Cup final on Sunday and have three fixtures remaining in the Women’s Super League so you wouldn’t put it past her to fire in a few more before the campaign is over.
It’s actually the third year in succession that a Chelsea player has won the FWA award, with Fran Kirby being voted for the accolade in 2021.
