Chelsea fans could finally breathe a sigh of relief as their team beat reigning Champions League champions Lyon in the second leg of their quarter-final tie – but only just.
The French outfit levelled the score on aggregate in the 77th minute, forcing the game into extra time – where they then took the lead. The Blues were then given a controversial penalty, which was slotted home by Maren Mjelde. In the resulting penalty shootout, Chelsea held their nerve and moved on to the next round.
While most Chelsea fans were happy with their team’s progression into the semi-finals, others took issue with the quality of the performance.

Lyon certainly didn’t make it easy for Chelsea – in fact, Les Fenottes were the better team for large portions of the game, as the Blues looked to preserve their lead.
Chelsea will take on Barcelona in the semi-finals, after the Catalonian giants defeated Roma in their respective quarter-final. If Chelsea can beat Barcelona, they could set up a mouth-watering Champions League final with Arsenal – but the Blues’ London rivals will also need to beat Wolfsburg first.
