Chelsea right-back Niamh Charles believes the Blues are on track to win the treble this season.
The Blues will lift the WSL title once again if they win all of their remaining games. Having also made it to the Women’s FA Cup final, they are also in touching distance of the Champions League crown, having made it to the semi-finals. When asked about the club’s ambitions for this campaign, Charles replied:
“I think that [winning the treble] is what we set out to do from the start of the season. We’re definitely happy with where we are, but we also know that nothing’s won right now and nothing’s given, so we need to work just as hard as we have done.”
Chelsea take on Barcelona over two legs for a place in the Champions League final before their attention returns to the WSL. Their next league fixture is against Liverpool. Charles is a Red. She was born locally and played for the Merseyside club before moving to Emma Hayes’ team in 2020. When asked who her idol was growing up, the defender replied:
“The one I would go to is Steven Gerrard because I’m a massive Liverpool fan having grown up there. The time where I was really getting hooked by football was the time where he was just colossal for Liverpool and he was driving the team forward and he really was the main person. He’s just a massive inspiration to me.”
Charles has some huge games coming up but, at the moment, the dreams of a famous treble are very much alive.
