Chelsea striker Sam Kerr has won the Women’s Super League Goal of the Month for March.
The Australian international’s superbly taken lob in the 1-0 win over Manchester United was a deserving winner of the award.
An excellent long-range pass from Lauren James was expertly controlled by Kerr, who proceeded to lift the ball over the head of United goalkeeper Mary Earps into the top left-hand corner of the goal.
The strike midway through the first half turned out to be the winner, sealing what could still prove to be a vital three points for the Blues in the race for the WSL title.
Kerr beat off stiff competition from Tottenham duo Celin Bezit Ildhusoy and Bethany England, Arsenal’s Caitlin Foord, Reading’s Rachel Rowe, Manchester City’s Lauren Hemp and Aston Villa’s Rachel Daly, who were also nominated for the prize.
Due to the international break, Kerr’s next game for Chelsea is on Sunday week, when her team will take on Villa in the Women’s FA Cup semi-final.
