Following their defeat in the Women’s Champions League at the hands of Barcelona, Chelsea will be looking to pick themselves up as they take on Liverpool in the WSL.
Chelsea will be without Fran Kirby, who is set to miss the rest of the WSL season as she undergoes knee surgery. On top of this,s she will also be out of action for the 2023 Women’s World Cup. Liverpool, on the other hand, have no new injury concerns.
In their last WSL game, all the way back at the beginning of April, Chelsea defeated Aston Villa away from home by a score of 3-0. Chelsea were dominant throughout – their goals were scored by Guro Reiten, Jelena Cankovic and Sam Kerr.
Meanwhile, Liverpool were humiliated in their last league game as they were battered 4-0 by lowly Leicester City. The Reds have had a middling campaign at best, but this was certainly the lowest point of the year for them, as the wounded Foxes tore them to shreds.
When the two teams met earlier in the campaign, all the way back in September, Liverpool emerged victorious by a score of 2-1. Fran Kirby scored an early penalty, only for Liverpool to score two penalties of their own, thanks to Katie Stengel.
