Chelsea forward Lauren James has been given the WSL Goal of the Month award for February.
The 21-year-old’s outstanding solo run and finish against Tottenham deservedly won the accolade. She cut inside from the right flank and passed a number of Spurs defenders before calmly slotting the ball away into the bottom right-hand corner of the goal.
Manchester City’s Chloe Kelly, Spurs’s Bethany England, Leicester City’s Hannah Cain and Aston Villa’s Jordan Nobbs were also nominated for the prize, but James’ effort was the standout goal of the month.
It’s been quite a week for the Blues star, having helped England win the Arnold Clark Cup, after also having scored her first goal for the Lionesses during the international break.
James will be full of confidence when she returns to club duty. Emma Hayes’s side take on Arsenal in the FA Women’s Cup this weekend before they play their next Women’s Super League fixture against Brighton on Wednesday.
