Jodie Taylor has agreed to join her old club Arsenal until the end of the WSL season, following the expiration of her contract at San Diego Wave.
Taylor’s first Arsenal stint spanned from 2016-2017, where she scored seven goals for the Gunners across 12 WSL games. She’s had a very nomadic career, playing for clubs such as Birmingham City, Melbourne City and Lyon (to name just a few). At Lyon, she won the Women’s Champions League in 2020.
At 36 years old, the Birkenhead-born goal machine may be somewhat past her best – however, the Gunners certainly seem to think that she has plenty left in the tank.
She has also won numerous caps for England over the course of her career. She made her Lionesses debut back in 2014 – since then, she has won 51 caps and has scored 19 goals. On top of this, she was also the top goalscorer at the 2017 Women’s Euros (with five goals) – netting a hat-trick against Scotland along the way.
Upon her return to North London, Taylor said: “It feels amazing to be back – like I never left.
“It’s incredible to have this opportunity to come back to the club that I love so much. A lot of progression has happened here in the last five years since I was last here and to see how much the club has grown and progressed is incredible. I’m very happy to be here.”
