The 2023 Women’s World Cup is well underway – so far, England fans can remain optimistic, as the Lionesses won their opening group game over Haiti.

We’ve already seen a collection of group game fixtures. Today, however, we’ll be highlighting three games in the first round of the competition that you won’t want to miss.

These games will feature a slew of WSL stars, who play for clubs such as Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City – let’s take a look at our first pick.

England vs Denmark

England have a relatively comfortable run-in over the course of their group stage fixtures – however, their tie against Denmark will be anything but smooth sailing.

While the Lionesses will enter this game as the favourites, Denmark should not be taken lightly – their squad is much stronger than of China’s or Haiti’s.

With players such as Pernille Harder, Signe Bruun and Sanne Troelsgaard to choose from, England will need to be careful that they do not take this one lightly.

France vs Brazil

Arguably the premier game of the group stage, France vs Brazil will take place at 11am (GMT). It is difficult to name a fixture that features such a depth of quality on both sides.

With Wendie Renard, France have, arguably, the best defender in women’s football – certainly, there are few that can match her aerially. That’s not all – Les Bleus also can boast superstars such as Eve Perisset, Sandie Toletti and Kenza Dali.

Of course, Brazil are also an extremely dangerous outfit, with players like Raffaele, Gabi Nunez and Geyse. If there is any one group stage fixture that you absolutely cannot miss – we feel it is this one.

USA vs The Netherlands

The USA are one of the most decorated international teams in women’s football – but they are set to face a stern challenge in the form of the Netherlands early on.

As the reigning champions, the USA will be heavy favourites for this one. With that being said, the Dutch are more than capable of springing a surprise.

At the age of 38, this tournament is likely to be the legendary Megan Rapinoe’s last. Can she make a splash in her swansong?
