How Leicester City Can Escape Relegation From The WSL

Currently, things look dire for Leicester City in the WSL. Their most recent game against Manchester United laid their biggest problems bare – often, they are beaten before kick-off even begins.

Currently, the Foxes are rooted to the bottom of the table with just six points from 13 games. They have picked up some great results here and there – including a win over Liverpool – but they do little to mask their crushing defeats.

Leicester have lost 4-0 against Manchester City, 4-0 against Arsenal and 8-0 against Chelsea this season. They have a woeful -25 goal difference – but it isn’t the worst in the division.

Indeed, Brighton have the same goal difference as Leicester. Moreover – the Seagulls have also conceded more goals than Leicester. On top of this, they are also one of few teams that the Foxes have beaten this year, by a score of 3-0 – the goals came through Aileen Whelan, Sam Tierney and Monique Robinson.

There is only one relegation spot in the WSL – as such, Leicester only need to finish above one team – could Brighton be that team?

One thing that the Seagulls have to their advantage is that they have two games in hand over Leicester. However, given their record this season, they aren’t guaranteed to win or even pick up a draw in those matches.

Regardless of how Brighton perform, Leicester boss Willie Kirk still has some major issues to ameliorate. Leicester do not have a lot of quality – most concerningly, they don’t have a lot of belief, either.

It can be very difficult to build confidence when you are suffering heavy defeats on a regular basis. Every game is a massive one now for Leicester – their next WSL fixture is against a midtable Everton outfit. While they aren’t expected to win, even a draw against the Toffees could be a step in the right direction.
