Liverpool Boss Laments “Crazy” Decision That “Cost” The Reds Merseyside Derby Win

Liverpool manager Matt Beard was unhappy with the officiating as the Reds drew 1-1 with archrivals Everton on Friday evening.

Leighanne Robe appeared to have sealed the winner from close range but the goal was ruled out for a foul on Toffees goalkeeper Courtney Brosnan. Beard was clearly fuming about the decision after the match:

“We should’ve won the game, I’ve just seen the disallowed goal and I can’t believe it to be perfectly honest with you. It’s crazy. We’ve had enough chances tonight to get the win anyway. That’s another decision like that that’s cost us three points.”

Gabby George had put Everton in the lead midway through the first half, before Beard’s team got back on level terms just before halftime when Katie Stengel equalised with a composed finish.

As Beard points out, Liverpool were on top for the rest of the game but failed to make their chances pay, with Robe’s disallowed goal ending up proving crucial to the result.

With the Merseyside rivals sharing the points, it keeps Everton six points above the Reds in the Women’s Super League table. Liverpool play West Ham away from home in their next fixture.
