“Hopefully This Is The Year” – City Star Speaks Out On Club’s Title Ambitions

Manchester City midfielder Ruby Mace says she is hoping that the club can end their eight-year wait for another league title.

Speaking to the Manchester Evening News, Mace said that Gareth Taylor’s squad are a tightly-knit group, and there is a sense that the team can do something special this season:

“It’s a great team Everyone works hard every day and we’re like a little family. We’ve all got each other’s back and hopefully, this is the year we can bring trophies in.”

Mace has personally not had as much first-team football as she would have liked this campaign. After playing regularly during her loan spell at Leicester last year following a serious thigh injury, she has had to settle for minutes off the bench on her return to Manchester.

The 20-year-old has more often than not been used as a utility player by Taylor, having made appearances as a right-back, in central midfield and as an attacking midfielder in five league appearances.

What is the state of play at the top of the WSL table?

City currently lead the way, sitting in 1st after 18 games played, having beaten Liverpool 4-1 away from home in their last fixture.

However, they have played one more game than their closest rivals Chelsea. The Blues are three points adrift of the Cityzens, but things are so tight that the title could ultimately be decided by goal difference or even goals scored.

Who do City still have to face this season?

The Manchester club have four more games left to play in the league. They take on West Ham at home later this month, before a trip to bottom-of-the-table Bristol City.

In early May, Taylor’s team host Arsenal, which will be a very tricky fixture, prior to their final WSL match against Aston Villa 13 days later.
