Arsenal women superstar Vivianne Miedema has spent most of the 2022/23 season sidelined with an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear. However, she recently posted an encouraging piece on Instagram regarding her season-ending injury.
Miedema was ruled out of action back in December, just a couple of weeks after fellow Gunners star Beth Mead was also declared out for the season with the exact same injury. Since then, Arsenal’s Leah Williamson has also fallen foul of an ACL injury.
For the post’s caption, Miedema wrote: “158 days since I last ran.. although it felt like running on the moon I’m pretty happy and proud I finally got there again. @ all girls & physio’s @arsenalwfc , thank you for being the best cheerleaders and being there along the way!”

Who responded to the post?
Currently, Miedema’s post has just under 50,000 likes on Instagram. Among those who have liked the post include MacKenzie Arnold, Missy Bo-Kearns and Arsenal men’s defender Rob Holding.
Additionally, a few of her Gunners compatriots left a message of well-wishing in the comments section, including Beth Mead, Leah Williamson, Caitlin Foord, Katie McCabe and Laura Weinrother. It’s clear that the Arsenal squad are a tight-knit, supportive bunch.
Mead, who Miedema is in a public relationship with, wrote: “We love being your cheerleaders. So proud of you.”
While Miedema will not partake in the final gameweek of the WSL season, as Arsenal take on fifth-placed Aston Villa, the Gunners hierarchy are hopeful that she will be ready for the dawn of the 2023/24 season.
Losing Miedema has been a massive blow to the Gunners this season. She is one of the greatest goalscorers in WSL history, having netted 78 goals in 97 appearances for Arsenal – she is practically irreplaceable to their setup.
