Arsenal midfielder Lia Walti has confirmed that she has taken a “personal break” from football for the good of her mental wellbeing.
The 29-year-old has withdrawn from the Switzerland squad, as well as announcing that she won’t be playing for the Gunners in upcoming fixtures:

Walti has been a key player for Jonas Eidevall’s side this season, having started 14 of Arsenal‘s 16 Women’s Super League games. Only Caitlin Foord has featured in more matches for the London club.
With the Gunners having beaten Manchester City 2-1 just before the international break, they have brought themselves right back into the fight for the WSL title. Eidevall’s team are three points behind leaders Manchester United with a game in hand, and two points adrift of Chelsea in second.
Walti’s absence will, of course, be a setback for Arsenal’s hopes of finishing top of the table, but everyone will be wishing the player well and hoping she returns to the pitch soon.
