Spurs Star Handed Two Match Ban After Deceiving The Referee In Defeat To United

Tottenham midfielder Eveliina Summanen has been given a retrospective two-match ban for her part in Manchester United star Ella Toone’s sending off.

An altercation between Summanen and Toone led to the latter being handed a red card by referee Amy Fearn in Spurs’s 2-1 defeat earlier this month.

United manager Marc Skinner accused Summanen of simulation after the match and the Reds subsequently appealed Toone’s suspension, which was successful.

As a consequence, the FA then charged Summanen for deceiving a referee. The incident was reviewed and a panel decided that the Tottenham star was playacting after a scuffle with Toone.

The midfielder will now miss Spurs’s next two fixtures against Reading in the FA Women’s Cup this Sunday and the clash against Manchester City in the Women’s Super League at the start of next month.

It’s another blow for Tottenham manager Rehanne Skinner, whose team are currently on a seven-game losing streak.
