“There’s So Many More Twists To Happen…” Skinner Tries To Keep Feet On The Ground As United Leapfrog Chelsea

Manchester United Women head coach Marc Skinner says there is plenty more football left to play despite the Reds moving top of the WSL table at the weekend.

Skinner’s side secured a narrow 2-1 away win against Tottenham on Sunday. They had to overcome a late red card given to Ella Toone in order to grab a vital three points, and asked about his team’s title chances after the match, Skinner said:

“It’s good to be top of the table but look how good teams are in this country. I love it. There’s so many more twists to happen yet. We can just keep trying to win games of football… I’m not surprised by the ambitions of the club, but we’re trying to do something which is very difficult to do – win when we haven’t got that in our history yet.”

United have moved above Chelsea, who did not play this weekend. Emma Hayes‘ side do have a game in hand, while their experience of winning multiple WSL titles means they won’t give up their place at the top of the table easily.

Manchester City also need to be considered as title contenders, though. Their win over Arsenal on Saturday means they are just three points behind United

With a two-week international break, the Red Devils next match will be against Leicester on Sunday 5th March.
