WSL Coach Wins February Manager Of The Month Award

Gareth Taylor, head coach at Manchester City, has been awarded the WSL manager of the month award for February.

Manchester City played twice in the WSL in February, winning both of their league fixtures. With these two wins, City extended their unbeaten run in the WSL to an impressive eleven games.

In their first league game in February, the Citizens overcame bottom club Leicester City with a dominant display. City rattled off 32 shots to Leicester’s four and also enjoyed 75% of the share of possession.

In the end, despite the Foxes putting up a solid defensive effort, City won 2-0 thanks to second half goals from Khadija Shaw and Chloe Kelly.

City faced a much sterner challenge in their second game, as they played Arsenal (who were above the Sky Blues in the league at the time). Regardless, City still managed to escape with a well-earned win.

The Citizens started strongly, scoring early on thanks to Lauren Hemp. They continued their first half dominance, scoring again in the 43rd minute through Chloe Kelly.

In the second half, City took their foot off the gas somewhat, as Arsenal looked to pile on the pressure. The Gunners scored in the second half through Rafaelle Souza, but were unable to find an equaliser as City’s stubborn defence held firm.

With these two wins, especially the win over Arsenal, Taylor is good value for the manager of the month award for February 2023.
