WSL Midweek Roundup

Chelsea and Arsenal both scored dominant wins over their relegation-threatened opposition during this pair of WSL midweek fixtures – let’s take a closer look at how the games panned out.

Chelsea took on Willie Kirk’s Leicester City in their Wednesday night encounter. It was a complete rout – they annihilated the Foxes by a score of 6-0 on the day.

Guro Reiten opened the scoring for the Blues, soon followed by efforts from Erin Cuthbert and a brace from Pernille Harder – all within the first half!

Emma Hayes’ outfit sealed the deal in the second period, as Lauren James and Jelena Cankovic both got their names on the scoresheet to complete their big win. The victory sees Chelsea move within a point of league leaders Manchester United – and they still have a game in hand to play.

Meanwhile, Arsenal defeated Brighton by a score of 4-0 in their midweek game. Stina Blackstenius set the tone with a quickfire brace before the ten minute mark – the Gunners started brightly and never looked back.

This was followed up by another pair of first-half goals from Frida Maanum and Victoria Pelova – in the second half, the Gunners took their foot off the gas and looked to preserve their lead. Brighton were unable to find a response – the scores ended at 4-0 to the North London club.
