WSL and Arsenal all-star Beth Mead has celebrated receiving the freedom of the borough in Scarbrough – she commemorated the occasion with a post on Instagram.
Mead was granted the freedom of the borough back in March – however, she only received the honour physically on April 10, 2023.
For the post’s caption, Mead wrote: “What a huge honour to receive Freedom of the Borough on a such a historic day. The final day of Scarborough borough council.”
Currently, Mead’s post has over 40,000 likes on Instagram. Among those who have liked the post include Jordan Nobbs, Carly Telford and Arsenal men’s defender Rob Holding. Additionally, several fellow footballers (both past and present) left a comment on the post – including Alex Scott, who enjoyed three separate stints at Arsenal.
Contrary to reports, Mead was not born in Scarborough – she was, in fact, born in Whitby – which is located roughly 20 miles north of Scarborough. Nevertheless, it is still a massive milestone for the 27-year-old – even when she is injured, she cannot help but win awards!
Mead’s injury will likely keep her sidelined for the remainder of the WSL season. Despite this, she is hopeful that she will be fit to play in the 2023 World Cup – her availability for the tournament is yet to be confirmed.
