WSL Superstar Named In Champions League Team Of The Season

Arsenal star Katie McCabe has been named as part of the Women’s Champions League Team Of The Season – she is the only WSL player to have been included in the illustrious eleven [via UEFA].

The full list of players who made it into the Champions League Team Of The Season are as follows: Merle Frohms (Wolfsburg), Lucy Bronze (Barcelona), Irene Paredes (Barcelona), Mapi León (Barcelona), Katie McCabe (Arsenal), Aitana Bonmatí (Barcelona), Lena Oberdorf (Wolfsburg), Caroline Graham Hansen (Barcelona), Alex Popp (Wolfsburg), Ewa Pajor (Wolfsburg), Patri Guijarro (Barcelona).

Which other WSL players could have made it into the Champions League Team Of The Season?

Fellow Arsenal players, Stina Blackstenius and Frida Maanum, both could have been included in the team of the season – they both scored five goals for the Gunners across the tournament. Blackstenius also picked up four assists along the way.

Additionally, Chelsea’s Sam Kerr also scored five goals in the competition, while Guro Reiten accumulated five assists. Moreover, Erin Cuthbert also had a fine tournament, as her defensive skills were on full display.

Predictably, the team is dominated by Barcelona and Wolfsburg players – but for only one WSL player to make the final XI seems a tad insulting.
