Are Chelsea On Their Way To Another WSL Title?

Last night in the WSL, Chelsea slaughtered West Ham United by a score of 4-0 at Victoria Road – the win saw Emma Hayes’ team return to the top of the league table.

Niamh Charles, Pernille Harder, Sophie Ingle and Erin Cuthbert all got their names on the scoresheet en route to a dominant win.

As such, despite stern competition from the likes of Manchester United and Arsenal, the Blues are now in pole position to collect another WSL trophy at the season’s conclusion.

Nevertheless, the season isn’t over yet. Chelsea may have one hand on the trophy – but they still have two games to get through first.

Chelsea’s remaining WSL games

The first game of Chelsea’s last two remaining fixtures will be a defining one, as the Blues take on local rivals Arsenal. While this is certainly the tougher game, Arsenal are heavily depleted with injuries – players such as Vivianne Miedema, Beth Mead and Leah Williamson are all out of action.

The two teams have played each other three times this season – Chelsea have won one, lost one and drawn one. There is little to seperate them – but it is a game that Chelsea must win if they are to maintain their position at the league table’s pinnacle. If not, they will need to hope that Manchester United drop points.

In Chelsea’s last game of the season, they will take on Reading. While this looks like an easy game at first glance, Reading are currently fighting for their WSL lives – a defeat could see them condemned to relegation.

Due to this, Chelsea will need to be on top of their game in both fixtures. They are certainly the favourites to lift the league title, but they cannot allow themselves to become complacent.
