Chelsea have announced the signing of midfielder Sjoeke Nüsken, who will join the Blues from Eintracht Frankfurt. The German has penned a three-year deal with the Women’s Super League outfit and will move on July 1st.
Emma Hayes, who led her team to their fifth FA Cup title on Sunday, is delighted with her side’s latest acquisition and can’t wait to integrate her into the team.
“Sj0eke is a fantastic young midfield player whose ability to play the ball deep into the opponents’ half is not her only standout strength, there is everything from her interceptions, her reading of the game and her overall presence. She’s dynamic, she’s good aerially, and she’s going to be a fantastic signing for this club.”
Who is new Chelsea signing Sjoeke Nüsken?
Nüsken is a versatile midfielder who is set to leave her native Germany this summer for the first time. The 22-year-old’s youth career started at FSV Gütersloh 2009 and Westfalia Rhynern, before she made her senior debut with Eintracht Frankfurt in 2019.
Nüsken has only ever represented Die Adler at professional level and has clocked almost 100 appearances. She helped them to a third-place finish in the Frauen-Bundesliga last season, where they also currently sit this term with two games to go.
The midfielder said taking her career to England is “the right thing to do now.” She is excited to join the five-time WSL champions this summer and ‘improve her football skills.’

Nüsken is described as a “combative, technical and athletic midfielder” who can operate in either a defensive or box-to-box role. She can also play at centre-back, meaning her ability to adapt will undoubtedly be utilised as such under Hayes.
Nüsken has contributed 12 goals for Frankfurt during her domestic career and has 15 caps for Germany. She made her international debut in 2021 after rising through the youth ranks.
The 22-year-old will link up with compatriots Ann-Katrin Berger and Melanie Leupolz at Chelsea ahead of the 2023/24 season.
