Arsenal striker Cloe Lacasse has won the Barclays WSL Goal of the Month award for October.
Playing in only her fourth appearance for the Gunners, the Canadian international came off the bench to score a spectacular late equaliser in the 2-2 draw against Manchester United. Asked about the goal by the club’s official website, Lacasse said:
“As an attacker, you have tunnel vision in those moments and all you see is that net. I spotted a little window of opportunity, struck the ball and it felt good coming off my foot, for sure.”
It remains Lacasse’s only goal for the club so far, having joined from Benfica on a long-term contract in June.

Lacasse’s teammate Katie McCabe was also up for the prize, with her goal against Bristol City during the 2-1 win last month getting a nomination.
Manchester City’s Lauren Hemp was selected for her strike versus West Ham, in addition to Aimee Palmer’s long-range effort for Leicester City against Bristol City and Liverpool’s Marie Hobinger’s goal versus Aston Villa. Tottenham trio Grace Clinton (v Brighton), Martha Thomas (v Aston Villa) and Eveliina Summanen (v Bristol City) were also on the shortlist.
Arsenal fans will be hoping for more from Lacasse
The forward had an outstanding scoring record at her two previous clubs. She scored 73 times in 113 appearances for IBV in Iceland before she made the switch to Benfica in 2019.
In Portugal, Lacasse was even more prolific, netting 100 goals in just 129 games across four seasons. Of course, the Women’s Super League is a step up for the striker but, as we saw against Manchester United, the Arsenal player is very much a natural in front of goal.
