Chelsea Dealt Injury Blow With British Record Signing Set To Miss Liverpool Clash

Chelsea manager Emma Hayes has revealed that Mayra Ramirez won’t be fit to face Liverpool in their crucial Women’s Super League fixture on Wednesday night.

The Colombian international has not played since being substituted late on in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final against Barcelona ten days ago.

Ramirez was not involved in the second leg at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, with it being confirmed that she had picked up an injury in training prior to the game.

The 25-year-old clearly requires longer to recover and she will not be in the travelling party for the match at Prenton Park.

Ramirez’s impact after arriving at Chelsea

The Blues splashed out a British record £426,000 to secure the striker’s services from Levante during the January transfer window.

Following the serious injury sustained by Sam Kerr, the WSL champions needed to bring in another player to score goals in the second half of the season.

However, it’s fair to say that Ramirez has yet to find her top form, scoring 3 times in 8 appearances, with her one and only goal in the WSL coming in a 4-0 win over Leicester City in early March.

What is the state of play in the WSL title race?

Manchester City’s victory against Bristol City means that they have a six-point gap over Chelsea, with two games remaining. However, Emma Hayes’ side do have two games in hand; one of which is the Liverpool fixture.

The Reds have actually been better away from home, having picked up 14 points from 9 matches at Prenton Park, so the Blues should be confident they can get a result.

Following the disappointment of crashing out of the Champions League, there should be extra motivation for the game, with the players knowing full well that the WSL is the final chance for this team to win silverware this campaign.
