Manchester United banked a huge three points against Aston Villa last weekend to keep their Women’s Super League title hopes alive.

Thanks to a clutch goal in stoppage time from Millie Turner, the Reds stay at the top of the table, in hot pursuit of their first ever WSL trophy and Champions League qualification.

Turner, the hero of the hour for the Reds, watched her goal back after the match at Bescot Stadium. While reflecting on the occasion, she revealed what manager Marc Skinner said to her before substituting her on.

It was a tense affair between the two sides after a brace from Rachel Daly cancelled out goals from Leah Galton and Nikita Parris.

Skinner brought Turner on to replace Aoife Mannion in the 87th minute, pushing for a last-gasp breakthrough that would provide his team with a massive win.

Sure enough, the 26-year-old got onto the end of a Katie Zelem set-piece in the dying moments and leapt higher than everyone else to nod in the winner and snatch the three points.

After the match, Turner acknowledged her game-changing cameo performance and tweeted: “Fergie time” alongside a winking emoji and images of her celebrating. She was also shown a replay of her goal, where she revealed what Skinner said to her before sending her on.

“It’s a great delivery from [Zelem]. I saw it coming and I just thought, ‘free header’ and just put it in the bottom corner. Honestly, when it went in, I couldn’t believe it — the scenes! I just remember all the girls jumping on me, it was unbelievable honestly.”

Turner was asked what the game plan was between her and Skinner, to which she replied: “He just said, ‘Mill, you can go and win the game here. We’ll get another set-piece and just time your run and see what happens.'”

The next challenge for Man United will be Tottenham Hotspur at home, followed by Manchester City, and the finale against Liverpool on the road. Their FA Cup final clash against Chelsea is also nestled between this run of fixtures.
