REPORT: WSL Goalkeeper Set To Leave Current Club

Leicester City and WSL goalkeeper Kirstie Levell is set to leave the Foxes at end of the season, as confirmed on her social media.

In her goodbye message to Leicester fans on Twitter, Levell wrote: “We made history at this club. We won the Golden Glove at this club. And we made some great memories along the way.

“Past two years have been a battle with fighting relegation in the WSL. This season has been mentally and physically draining but I hope next year my teammates prove their WSL status and finish in a better position in that league table – they deserve it!

“My time as a Fox is up and I’m ready to get started with my next chapter.”

Will Kirstie Levell stay in the WSL?

Should Kirstie Levell opt to stay in the WSL, there are a number of clubs who may be interested in acquiring her services. She could return to her old club, Everton – when Emily Ramsey returns to Manchester United upon the expiry of her loan deal, the Toffees will be in need of a top ‘keeper. In this case, Levell fits the bill perfectly.

Tottenham Hotspur could also have a use for the 26-year-old. Their two main goalkeepers, Rebecca Spencer and Tinja-Riikka Korpela, have somewhat underperformed this season – bringing Levell in could be the shake-up that Spurs need between the sticks.

Kirstie Levell career summary

Born in Birkenhead, Levell’s career began at Everton as a youngster – she made her debut for the Toffees in 2015, when she was just 18 years of age.

She went on to make 51 appearances for Everton before joining Leicester on a free transfer. In her first season with the Foxes, she won the Women’s Championship and also picked up the Golden Glove award for collecting the most clean sheets that year.
