Aston Villa striker Rachel Daly has been voted the Women’s Super League Player of the Season.
The 31-year-old is fully deserving of the accolade, having scored 21 goals in 21 appearances for the Villans, leading the goalscoring charts with one game left to go.
Daly’s career has been slightly unusual, to say the least. Ostensibly a fullback at the start of her career, she was converted into a forward during her time with Houston Dash in the USA.
Yet, she played every game at left-back in England’s European Championship triumph last summer, demonstrating her extraordinary versatility.
Since Daly was brought back to the UK by Villa boss Carla Ward, though, she has been deployed as a forward, and her goal return has been phenomenal.
Daly beat some prestigious names to claim the award
Manchester City’s Bunny Shaw, who has scored 18 goals herself this campaign, missed out on the prize, along with Chelsea’s Sam Kerr and teammate Guro Reiten.
The likes of Manchester United’s Ona Batlle & Leah Galton, Arsenal’s Frida Maanum, as well as Daly’s Villa teammate Kirsty Hanson, were also nominated.
