WSL Midweek Preview: Arsenal Vs Liverpool & Chelsea Vs Brighton

Arsenal are set to take on Liverpool and Chelsea will play relegation-threatened Brighton in this installment of midweek WSL action.

Arsenal and Liverpool have already played each other in the WSL this season, all the way back in October. In that game, Arsenal ran out as 2-0 winners, thanks to goals from Lia Walti and Frida Maanum. Can Liverpool gain a modicum of vengeance in the reverse fixture?

The Gunners are currently 4th in the WSL table. They have fallen behind somewhat in the title race – it is possible that their focus may have been shifted over to the WSL League Cup (which they won, beating Chelsea in the final). With that competition out of the way, they can now concentrate their efforts on the league.

Liverpool, meanwhile, are 8th in the league. It hasn’t been an easy season for the Reds – they were promoted from the Championship last season and haven’t found life in the WSL easy. They are just five points clear of the relegation zone – however, they also have two games in hand over several of the teams around them.

Meanwhile, in the other midweek WSL game during this set of fixtures, Chelsea will take on Brighton. The two teams played each other in October, where Chelsea emerged victorious by a score of 2-0.

With 39 goals conceded in eleven games, Brighton have the leakiest defence in the WSL by a considerable margin. Meanwhile, Chelsea have scored 35 goals across 12 league games – only league leaders Manchester United have scored more.

This would seem to suggest that we may have a bloodbath on our hands – despite this, Chelsea could be low on confidence after their defeat against Arsenal in the WSL League Cup final – could the Seagulls capitalise on this?
