Arsenal were victorious over Liverpool and Chelsea continued their push for the title in the latest set of fixtures in the WSL.
Arsenal defeated Liverpool by a score of 2-0 – it was a relatively one-sided affair, where the Gunners shut down their opposition effectively and were also able to open up their defence on several occasions.
Liverpool, on the other hand, were poor – they could only muster a single shot on a target in response. In the end, Arsenal won comfortably thanks to goals from Stina Blackstenius and Caitlin Foord.
The result sees Arsenal remain in fourth position – despite the win, they’re still six points behind WSL leaders Manchester United. Liverpool, meanwhile, remain in 8th – they seem to be safe from relegation, but a bad run of form could land them in trouble.
In the other game on Wednesday evening, Chelsea defeated Brighton by a score of 3-1. The Blues entered the game as hot favourites, but a battling Brighton side weren’t about to make it easy for them.
Despite their best efforts, Chelsea were simply too much for Brighton – both teams were able to create chances, but the Blues were much more clinical.
Chelsea’s goals were scored by Guro Reiten, Jess Carter and Johanna Rytting Kaneryd – while Danielle Carter found the back of the net late on for the Seagulls, it proved to be nothing more than a mere consolation.
The win sees Chelsea leapfrog Manchester City into second place. Brighton will stay in 11th place, just two points away from the relegation zone.
