3 Arsenal Stars Make It Into WhoScored’s Team Of The Week After Chelsea Thrashing

Arsenal trio Amanda Ilestedt, Lia Walti and Alessia Russo have been named in WhoScored.com‘s Team of the Week.

All three players had key roles as the Gunners secured a comprehensive 4-1 win over title rivals Chelsea on Sunday afternoon.

In front of a record-breaking crowd at the Emirates, Beth Mead put the home side ahead after just 8 minutes against the league leaders.

Ilestedt then scored to regain the lead 10 minutes before half-time, following Johanna Kaneryd’s equaliser, with Alessia Russo making it 3 shortly afterwards.

The England international made it a brace when she converted from the penalty spot in the second half to seal victory.

Who else made it into WhoScored’s Team of the Week?

Everton goalkeeper Courtney Brosnan was selected, having kept a clean sheet in the Toffees’ 1-0 win against West Ham.

Ilestedt was joined in a back three by Manchester United’s Maya Le Tissier and Aston Villa’s Danielle Turner. In midfield, Manchester City wingers Chloe Kelly and Lauren Hemp were named alongside United’s Hayley Ladd and Walti.

Up front, Brighton’s Elisabeth Terland (who scored twice against Leicester) is partnered by United’s Melvine Malard and Russo.

The WSL title race is heating up

The Gunners’ victory over Chelsea at the weekend means that they are level on points with the reigning champions heading into the final round of fixtures ahead of the winter break.

Jonas Eidevall’s side do have a North London derby to contend with, though, but they will be hoping to secure the 3 points against Tottenham to keep up the pace at the top of the table.

4th place Manchester United and 5th place Liverpool will also face each other this Sunday so it promises to be an exciting end to the first half of the Women’s Super League season.
