Tottenham Set To Beat 2 Rivals In Race To Sign Manchester United Midfielder On Loan

Tottenham are set to win the battle for the signature of Manchester United midfielder Grace Clinton, according to Manchester World.

The 20-year-old spent the second half of last season out on loan at Bristol City, helping the Robins to promotion from the Championship.

Along with Brighton, the newly promoted Women’s Super League club were in the running to sign Clinton on loan again this summer, but Spurs look to have secured her services instead.

The former Everton player only made the move to Old Trafford last year but she has still not made a first-team appearance since her arrival in Manchester.

Manager Marc Skinner had dropped some hints that Clinton could be in contention for game time following her return from Bristol City. However, the decision has been made to loan her out for a second successive campaign.

There is fierce competition for places in United’s midfield

With the likes of Ella Toone, Katie Zelem, Hayley Ladd and Vilde Boa Risa already in the squad, opportunities for Clinton were always going to be few and far between.

However, the signing of Lisa Naalsund in January meant that the England youth international had little option but to leave for first-team football back in January. With the midfield area remaining stacked, another loan move does make a lot of sense.

Clinton can gain more experience at the highest level

While Clinton has played in the WSL before, during two seasons at Everton where she made her senior debut, the midfielder has not had a full campaign as a regular starter in the English top flight.

United will be hoping that she can firmly establish herself as a key player at Tottenham, before returning to her parent club next year with the additional experience required that will help her break into the first team.
