Manchester United mustered a dramatic fightback win against Aston Villa, relegation-threatened Leicester City thumped Liverpool and Manchester City defeated Reading in the latest edition of WSL action.
In the first game of the weekend, featured on Friday evening, Manchester United dug deep to pick up an away win over dark horses Aston Villa. The Midlands club stunned the Red Devils in the first half, as they entered the break 2-1 up thanks to a brace from Rachel Daly.
Nikita Parris levelled the scores just after the hour mark – just as the game looked to end at a stalemate, Millie Turner headed home a stoppage-time winner to keep United’s title dreams alive.
Leicester sprung a surprise as they crushed Liverpool by a score of 4-0. The Foxes have struggled this season, but they made quick work of a lacklustre Reds outfit – their goalscorers on the day were Josie Green, Carrie Jones, Ashleigh Plumptre and Missy Goodwin.
Despite a brace from Beth England, Spurs could only manage to collect a point when they took on Brighton. England struck in both halves, but her efforts were cancelled out by the Seagulls’ Elisabeth Terland and Lee Geum-min.
Finally, Manchester City trounced Reading on Sunday in a game that saw the Royals sink to the bottom of the WSL table. Reading scored in the opening minute, but the Sky Blues were not about to roll over – they equalised in the 15th minute thanks to Chloe Kelly, then went on to add an additional three goals to their tally before the game was done.
